Blatant Nazi Politics?

by Stephen Collins on 17.07.09

Sixty-five years ago, over sixty thousand British men went to fight for freedom against Nazi oppression in Europe. This week the few remaining veterans went to Normandy, probably for the last time, to commemorate their friends who never came home. While the old vanguard were away, this generation were at the polls (exercising a right they fought to protect) and for the first time, we elected the British National Party.

Since the election there’s been a wave of public condemnation from the political mainstream and the media. Labour’s Harriet Harman described it as ‘terrible’, Tory leader David Cameron said he was ‘sickened’, and Nick Clegg of the LibDems called them ‘a party of thug, of fascists’. However, the BNP leader Nick Griffin asks, ‘is it racist to look after our own people?’ In spite of public opinion the BNP claims to be representing the best interests of the common man in the UK. They pledge to fight the threat of big business, the European Union, and most of all an end to mass immigration. They vow to be tough on crime and punishment, and to strengthen the health service. All in all they promise to make Britain Great again so that Britons can once again hold their heads high. So are they now a party to be reckoned with and believed in?

Griffin goes on to claim that his party is being slandered and gagged by the media. In London he was pelted with eggs by members of Unite Against Fascism and asked why, in a democracy, this was allowed to happen? He claims that this protest was sponsored by the three main parties and says that the authorities should get a grip and allow him to speak, and I for one agree.

Not because I want to hear what he has to say, but because this kind of circus is playing straight into their hands. You can see him smiling as he flees from the barrage of eggs and stones. It gives credence to his claims of bias, and fans the flames of his supporters; they will say this is what happens when honest men try to stick up for Britons, and gain followers from the ambivalent. The UAF should let the BNP policies speak for themselves instead of making them seem like victims.
I had to visit the BNP website to write this article. It wasn’t particularly convincing rhetoric and their manifestos make for onerous reading.

The promises they make may sound idyllic however, anyone with an enthusiasm for world politics and economics would see, aside from using sorcery – their schemes would prove impossible. Although there is no overt racist language they promise an end to mass immigration, calling it ‘an invasion’. Immigrants are blamed for taking our jobs and stealing our benefits, a contentious point in these difficult economic times. They make no mention of the million ‘indigenous’ Brits that remained unemployed at the height of the boom, or those who continue to claim off the state. Nor do they remember how employers were forced look to Europe and beyond to find staff to keep their business’ going.

Nowhere on their website does it reveal their views on black Britons. The most we are told is that people who came to work in this country and their children are safe. They don’t go onto say what they would do with the rest. More worrying was their assertion of ‘voluntary’ repatriation for families who have settled here, going so far as to offer cash rewards. Sounds like an offer they wont refuse. God help the England football team without the likes of Rio Ferdinand, or the Olympic squad without Christine Ohuruogu. Personally, it’s their stance on crime and punishment I found unnerving, a return to corporal punishment for petty criminals and death to murderers and paedophiles. Some of you may agree, but this alongside their insistence in restoring police powers and re-writing EU laws that have been forced upon us, makes me wonder what would become a crime in BNP Britain.

Frankly, their policies are the same as they’ve always been, only edited and buffed to look shiny. Wearing their suits and with a veneer of respectability they’ve gained credibility through the failure of the main parties. In spite of everything they say they remain right wing and fascist. They still don’t like or want immigrants, they oppose same sex partnerships; they still believe that the ultimate solution is exclusion and control.

So why have more people turned to the BNP? Are white Britons secretly yearning for an immigrant free Britain, away from Europe? Are we privately sick and tired of diversity in our lives but too politically correct to say? And if we’re not then where has all this support come from? The truth of the matter is that it hasn’t come from anywhere. There are only marginally more BNP supporters as there ever was; in fact, their actual vote count in the North West was lower than at the last election.
So how did they get in? This wasn’t a ‘first past the post’ election as we would have in a General Election, it was Proportional Representation. Every vote counted.

The sad truth is that if you’re reading this, disgusted with the BNP and all they stand for – but didn’t go out and vote, then it is YOU who are responsible. Whether through apathy or protest, if you didn’t raise your voice during the election then it is you who’ve allowed theirs to be heard. I truly hope that this dishonour to the nation will galvanise the Great British People of all colours and creeds to make their way to the ballot box next time. I hope we’ve learned that what Edmund Burke said is true – ‘the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing’.
