Us students love the odd drink, after all, most bars in Manchester have two for one offers and cheap drinks solely for the benefit of students. But who’s to say we cant act a bit classy once in a while, without just downing cheap pints and bottles of wine from the student union. The Northern Quarter in Manchester has great places to enjoy some of the more “up market” drinks available. This is our quick guide to a few of the best cocktails that can be found.

*Porn martini

Now we’re talking. When you imagine a cocktail this is what you see. Served in a traditional martini glass it is made from Finlandia Vodka, passionfruit, lemon Juice and butterscotch vanilla. This is known as a champagne cocktail for the added fact you get a shot of champagne on the side. As Socio Rehab say, “you can either sip it, shoot it or mix it”.

*Super Fly Thai Sling

As the name suggests this cocktail takes its influence from the country of Thailand. It is made for those who love Gin but has an East Asian twist of sake, ginger, lemon grass and mint soda. Green chillies are added to give it a spicy super fly taste.

*Rainbow Road

This is one of our favourites and is a Socio Rehab best seller. The first thing you’ll notice is the brightly lit glow sticks that light up the rainbow induced cocktail. Made from Finladia Vodka, passionfruit, apricot, lime and even gummybeary juice. A slice of water melon is added and one of those tangy sugar strips you used to eat when you were a kid. Definitely a drink for those with a sweet tooth.

All the cocktails featured here are from Socio Rehab (on High Street in the Northern Quarter). Sure, whilst it’s a fantastic place to take a date, if you’re on a budget you may be just as well staying in and trying your hand at brewing up a bit of moonshine. The guys at Socio Rehab have there own version… but after a little examination we figured there were only a couple of things that you’d need to keep in mind when making one at home.
