The Art of - Fear

by El Smit on 22.07.09

It is important to occasionally reflect on the principles of life. If we remember that the way we respond to fearful situations determines whether we become timid individuals or models of strength, we would choose our actions more carefully. Whenever we are struck by fear, we are standing at a fork in the road. One branch of the road leads to cowardice, the other to courage. One fork leads to our desires and dreams, the other to disappointment and despair.

Please my friends don’t despair, with El Smit’s help we can establish which fears you’re being a little bitch about and come up with logical solutions!

Could it be fear of terrorism?

This little guy has been causing beef for quite some time now. Have you found yourself looking over your shoulder, whilst climbing aboard your public transport home? Not what you need after a long day, plus let’s face it, Manchester has quite sub-standard hygiene aboard its public conveyance.

Solution: Buy a car; you can’t put a price on your own personal safety. No fear, you’ll be home quicker and although it isn’t doing the environment any favours if the buses are empty who can the terrorists target with their nuclear backpacks? That’s right; you’re doing your bit to prevent nuclear war. Go see the new terminator, that’s the result of nuclear war, who wants to live in a hole in the ground? Or star in a McG movie?

Fear of death?

Solution: It’s inevitable, man up.

Fear of ninjas?

Not one for many people to consider but you’d be a fool to over look it. I did some online research and found the following disturbing information:
1.Ninjas are mammals.
2.Ninjas fight ALL the time.
3.The purpose of a ninja is to flip out and kill people.
Eye witness account

“Ninjas can kill anyone they want!  Ninjas cut off heads ALL the time, and don’t even think twice about it.  These guys are so crazy and awesome that they flip out ALL the time.  I heard that there was this one ninja who was eating at a greasy spoon.  And when some dude dropped a spoon, the ninja killed the whole town”.

Solution: There was a time when I over looked ninja’s, these days are well and truly gone. My advice is to stay away from built up areas, towns and cities mostly and be sure never to make eye contact with anyone wielding a sword.

Fear of being separated from people we love?

It’s not easy to deal with this one. Family, no matter how you guys get on generally cause heart ache. They are taken for granted to begin with, but are ultimately needed for support. Once a member leaves, or passes away its hard to move on.

Solution: You best bet is to cry about it. This comes naturally, it’s the body’s coping mechanism, plus it can attract the support of others around you. Be sure to do this in the right places. For instance if you conduct your crying in a public house you may find free beer coming your way. At work it can get you home early and even time off! If crying isn’t for you then keep active, occupying the mind with mundane tasks is your best weapon against dwelling on the loss of a loved one. Hit the gym, do some gardening, hit the skin bars or just finish a jigsaw. These are all great activities, and are sure fire ways to gain closure!

Well then, I hope I’ve covered a good range of issue for all concerned. Fear may cause you to become disorientated, weak at the knees. If this happens, consult the fears stated above. If you don’t fall into any of the categories… my bad.
Next up is the art of procrastination! Maybe, if I can find the time.
