Chase and Status WHP (Live Review)

If seeing chase and status and Stanton Warriors on the same night was enough to convince you, the tickets selling out near enough straight away was a clear indication that this night was going to be amazing. I know many people that were trawling the internet for a last minute purchase but were un-successful.
Having been to many warehouse projects since it started up in the Boddingtons factory we pretty much knew what to expect. I had been listening to the new chase and status album for weeks before hand in preparation for the big night. We got to the venue a little before midnight and it was already rammed!! The atmosphere was fantastic and apart from the odd person slumped against a wall everyone seem to be having a great time.
First up there was Beardy Man, I hadn’t seen much of him before so I was intrigued to see what he had to offer. Playing tunes such as Stand by me, A to B, Sound of the Police and Magnetic Man he went down brilliantly. It didn’t seem that there wasn’t one person in the crowd that wasn’t enjoying it.
By the time Chase and Status came on the atmosphere in the room was electric. I was told before I went that C&S didn’t play their album songs in their DJ sets which I was a bit disappointed with but to my relief they did!!! They played Heartbeat, Pieces, End credits in fact they played nearly all the songs from the album. I have to admit my favourite was Heartbeat and from the reaction from the crowd when it came on I wasn’t the only person that thought this! Everyone went crazy!
One thing that I think WHP had improved this year was the visuals. There was a big screen behind the DJs which shown a rainbow of different colours and often found myself just staring at them enjoying the tranquillity of colours.
Next up was Stanton Warriors which I was really looking forward to as I have seen them a few times. The last time saw Stanton Warriors at WHP it was easily the best night that I had ever had there….until tonight. They played a few of their classics including a mix of Beach boys vs Loleatta Holloway Good Vibrations, ah the beauty of Shazam! We only watched half the set as we decided to catch the tail end of Jaguar skills. As we entered the small back room you were instantly hit by what can only be described as wet room conditions. The humidity was incredible; people that were leaving looked liked they had just taken a shower! Heat aside this back room really shows up the difference in sound quality from the main room. The bass rocketed around the room as Jaguar skills wearing his trade mark ninja balaclava, mixed in tunes from the A-team to Prodigy.
After leaving we were all still so amazed by all the DJs that we had seen that night that we didn’t even feel how cold it was and didn’t stop talking about our favourite points during the night all the way home until we tried to recreate the night in my very own living room (unsuccessfully), by putting on the C&S album full blast.
Even though we are regulars at WHP everytime I leave I am amazed by the place. The atmosphere is fantastic, the people are friendly, the venue is un-mistakable and music is second to none. There is something for everyone and I for one will be sure to attend a few more nights before the season ends!!!!
