Fake Blood - Warehouse Project (Live Review)

by 4Q on 18.10.10

With the season well under way, Fake Blood with Boys Noize is one of the nights that seemed to stand out the most on the calendar. Its clear that I’m not the only one as the event has sold out very quickly. With many of my close friends expressing disappointment that they didn’t sort their tickets out sooner I feel all the more excited to be attending.

Its what we have come to expect, in recent times, Fake Blood has become one of the most talked-about remixers and producers on the electro scene. The internet, and particularly the blogosphere, has worked itself into a flurry with theories abound as to who exactly the man behind the moniker is. His remixes have proven him to be an extremely adept and intelligent producer (perhaps the strongest argument that this is not a man who came out of nowhere and just started twiddling knobs and pressing buttons). His rhythmic preferences would definitely suggest a history somewhere in big beats; the drum loop in The Wiseguys’ 1998 hit Ooh La La is suspiciously similar to Fake Blood’s style. In fact, the theory that Fake Blood is, in fact, a DJ called Theo Keating, formerly of The Wiseguys and now of The Black Ghosts, is the strongest of the lot.

The Warehouse Project creates a great environment, with its large underground arches and very enthusiastic crowd its hard to ignore when Fake Blood take the stage. The night has already been flowing with great support from Jimmy Edgar and Shadow Dancers. The set comprises all that is to be expected with great amalgamation between each track. Stand out tracks for me include The Black Ghost and Bondo Do Role, but its clear which track the crowd have been waiting for. The crowd is steadily built up as I Think I Like It drops and the crowd erupts in cheers and raised hands. The track seems to pass so quickly but I think that is a result of being lost in the moment. A few large sips of beer help me carry myself through the remainder of a truly memorable set.

Upon retiring outside, a large majority of attendants found themselves covered in sweat, clothes firmly glued to selves, the product of a hectic set that had everyone dancing with little pause. Crowds lingered, people cueing up to puff on a post performance cigarette, and still beaming from ear to ear, knees still wobbling from the effect of being hit with so many crunchy bass and thumping drums. The verdict was unanimous. Who is Fake Blood? An incredible DJ, that’s who.

With a crammed packed lineup announced you need to check out as much as you can of the Warehouse Project line up, there is something for everyone here and I feel lucky to have been part of such a memorable night.
